Candidate for European Capital of Culture
Namur 2030 is an ambitious initiative that nominated the city of Namur as a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2030. Although Namur was ultimately not chosen as the European Capital of Culture, the project has created lasting cultural momentum in the region. More than 5,000 residents, artists, associations, institutions, and businesses worked together on the project. This led to the artistic program "Confluences." The program brought together themes such as the past and the future, local and global issues, and different perspectives and conversations. It created a space where culture could be shared, and everyone could participate in an open and connected atmosphere across the entire region.
Official Association
On July 30, 2024, the establishment of an official association was celebrated, under the leadership of Rector Annick Castiaux of the University of Namur. The creation of the association has provided Namur with a solid organizational structure, enabling the continued development of the cultural program. Collaboration is now taking place between local institutions, such as the University of Namur, the city of Namur, the province of Namur, and other partners. Through these collective efforts, Namur can further strengthen its cultural identity towards becoming an influential cultural center in Europe.
